Inside the Youth DJ Program

How equipment, hands-on instruction, and group practice come together in our DJ program.

Starting with the equipment

The Youth DJ Program introduces students to the tools used to select and mix music: controllers, headphones, laptops, and music software. Our equipment includes Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 controllers.

Instruction begins with the controls. Students learn about cueing, rhythm, tempo, and transitions, then spend time practicing the techniques themselves.

Learning together

Group practice gives students a chance to take turns, listen to one another, and explain their creative decisions. Instructors are there to answer questions and help students work through unfamiliar steps.

Communication and collaboration are part of the curriculum alongside technical skills. Students also explore creative identity, professionalism, entrepreneurship, and preparing to share a mix.

Joining a class

The program serves youth ages 8–18 and is free for participating students. Workshops and enrichment sessions can be adapted for schools and community organizations.

Families can register interest in a community class through the Youth DJ Program page. Dates, location, and capacity are confirmed separately; completing the interest form is not a guaranteed booking.
